Chosewood Park’s 100-unit Gladstone Apartments, along with 200 other units, have been slated for demolition to make way for a 1,180 unit mixed-use development by Empire Communities. The neighborhood’s desirability has increased along with the development of the Beltline’s Southside Trail expansion. The project will stretch across 34 acres: north to south from Englewood Avenue to Casanova and east to west from Boulevard to close to Chosewood Park.
782 multifamily rental units will be available along with 398 for-sale condos and townhomes. 15% reserved for affordable housing residents. With the beltline effect happening across the city, affordable housing options remain a challenge in these neighborhoods. The tenants of the Gladstone Apartments who were forced to quickly relocate, received some financial relocation assistance but still struggle to find new homes in their price range, especially with the added pressure of unstable employment during the pandemic.
Construction is underway and expected to finish at the end of 2027.
