All of our SAND neighbors will be pleased to hear that there are several new community beautification projects that are underway! These new projects will be announced and discussed in more detail at the September SAND meeting, happening this Thursday, September 13 at 7:30 PM at Ormewood Church. But, for those that can’t make the meeting:
SAND will be adopting the Eastwood/Emerson triangle through Park Pride. This little green space in the neighborhood will be maintained by the adjoining neighbors and SAND volunteers.
The intersection of Hemlock Circle and Moreland Place secured grant funds to create green space and water retention area where this “concrete island” now exists. This project was initiated by several of the adjacent neighbors and we’ll be giving periodic updates on this project as it progresses.
Red Robin Realtors adopted Stoney Point Park (at the corner of Woodland Ave and E. Confederate Ave) several years ago. Melissa Wakamo and Steve Carpenter, both of Red Robin, have primarily been responsible for the maintenance of Stoney Point and were recently elected as co-chairs of the Beautification Commission for SAND. “In this role, our vision is to bring Stoney Point Park into the mix with other parks and green spaces adopted by SAND, and increase the number of volunteers who are helping to maintain all the neighborhood green space”, noted Steve Carpenter.
The Beautification Committee will also be involved to some degree in other projects including sidewalk maintenance, Adopt-A-Street, art/murals, gateway signage and Friends of Benteen Park. If any of these projects sound interesting and you’d like to help, please let us know! Email melissa@redrobingroup.com for more info.
