Whether you just bought your home or you have owned your home for 100 years, you should check to make sure you are receiving the homestead exemption in both your city and your county. Homestead exemptions decrease the cost of living for owner-occupied homes quite significantly by reducing your property taxes to a fraction of what you would owe otherwise. Check through this list of counties and cities to find how to apply for any relevant homestead exemptions.

Fulton County

Applications must be submitted on or before April 1, 2023.  City homestead exemptions vary for each of the 15 cities in Fulton County. Legal residents of these cities will have their basic homestead exemption applied (if any) when they apply to receive a basic Fulton County homestead exemption.

City of East Point

City of Hapeville

There is no additional application for the city but make certain you file with Fulton County!

Homestead exemption applications are accepted year-round; however, to grant an exemption for the current tax year, we must receive your application no later than April 1, 2023.  However, please note that although we can accept homestead exemptions until April 1, we encourage eligible homeowners to apply for any new exemptions prior to March 15 to ensure your exemption appears on your 1st installment tax bill.

Gwinnett County

Deadline for submitting application, either online or by mail, is April 1, 2023.

PLEASE NOTE, you need only file for homestead exemption in your first year of home ownership.  Each county has different homestead exemption programs.  Be sure to read the information for your specific county.  If your exemption status should change, you will need to re-apply.
